The Year of Auto Tune - What do you think about it?

More and more artists and "so called" artists are using auto tune (from http://www.antarestech.com/ ) to make their voice sound better. To name a few artists: T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Cher and the list goes on. An interesting article about auto tune and "why music sounds so perfect" can be found by clicking here. 

Wikipedia explains Auto Tune like this:

"Auto-Tune is a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies. Auto-Tune uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise off-key inaccuracies and mistakes, and has allowed singers to perform perfectly tuned vocal tracks without the need of singing in tune. While its main purpose is to slightly bend sung pitches to the nearest true semitone (to the exact pitch of the nearest tone in traditional equal temperament), Auto-Tune can be used as an effect to distort the human voice when pitch is raised or lowered significantly." 


The big question is: Will all this auto-tuning result in more artists who can't really sing or doesn't it matter at all as long as it "sounds good"? We at iSpinner believe that auto tune is over-used and that more and more so called artists will pop-up because such tools exist. But honestly, don't you prefer to listen to artists who really can sing without the need of such tools. Imagine how sad you will feel when you visit some live gig, auto tune fails for some reason and your favorite artist now sounds like someone different...

It seems to me that they do not like their real voices! in some custom papers, I read that they were talking about it!

I hate autotune, all I can say. I like artists, who write quality essays and lyrics. Not the soap songs!

There are very few people who can really sing, a huge proportion of artists can only vocalise - this software allows the standards to fall even flatter, if you'll excuse the pun. Line up everyone who can perform unplugged, it'll be a very short queue.
