Lyndon Lai Tan is a talented young Trinidadian musician whose unique sound and emotive lyrics have set him apart in a competitive industry. His music takes the listener on a soaring spiritual and emotional journey; the experience is enhanced by the artist's impressive vocal abilities and a genre-defying willingness to experiment.
Lai Tan's extensive musical training means he is as proficient on the mic as he is when strumming an acoustic or electric guitar or caressing the keys of a piano. He started vocal training at the age of 9, and first picked up a guitar at 14. His first album - Bridges, independently released in 2006 - received enthusiastic critical acclaim and is a mainstay of local radio stations.
Bridges was recently released to the international market via Amazon and iTunes. His concerts and live performances are consistently sold out - no mean feat in the crowded and fickle Trinidadian market. He also maintains a vibrant digital presence: his Facebook fan page boasts more than 2,000 followers, and he uses mySpace and Twitter to connect to friends and fans around the world. In addition to a regular schedule of appearances around the country, Lai Tan is working on a follow-up to his debut album, tentatively titled XXX and with a release date set for mid-2010.
BACKGROUND // BIO: "And a picture paints a thousand words and a song can paint a life" Lyndon Lai Tan's music runs the gamut of rollicking, guitar rock to haunting piano-driven ballads, via dancehall-infused lyrical dynamite. Lyrically, Lai Tan often wears his heart on his sleeve. "My music as an extension of what I feel," he says. "It's a strong mix of catchy melodies that I over lay with life experiences."
A consummate performer with a witty, charming stage presence and a strong connection with his fans, Lai Tan says music is an essential part of his life. "I perform to survive in every sense of the word. I feel most alive doing the thing that I love, and seeing people positively affected by the work that I do," he says. "Sometimes words just aren't enough to express how you feel. Music seems to ease my soul, and each song delivers a message." Lai Tan says the goal of his music is to create a positive change in the world, and his soulful lyrics and sound resonate strongly with his diverse audience.
