Willie and the Hand Factory exists somewhere in the space between rock n roll and country music. Someplace near Gram Parsons and the Band. There's a haunting distant remnant of Billy Redden's banjo and some Chattooga river mud in there. Maybe it's country music with a brain. It's jazz too because all three of them were in jazz bands at one time. It kinda like garage rock because Bill was in the Fungos, the ultimate garage experience. Maybe it's got a tinge of gospel too, the Cartledge brothers are active church musicians and of course, they bring that to the table. Willie and the Hand Factory are Southern because they all grew up listening to Lyrnyrd Skynyrd and the The Allman Brothers. They come from Enigma, Ga. and humble beginnings. They grew up near each other on the wrong side of the tracks out where the ironweeds grow. Car rusted quitely in the front yard and the porch always needed a coat of paint. Listen intently to the songs and see if you hear a distant train.
